Current and upcoming works

August to November 2023

Since December 2021 when the Big Housing Build project was announced, we’ve worked closely with the community in East Geelong to prepare for the delivery of new social homes.

The vacant buildings between Ensby and Tate Street have now been demolished to make way for the construction of the new homes at the Ormond Road site.

Fixed timber hoarding installed around the demolition site will remain for the duration of the works.

All demolition works have been carried out safely and we worked with businesses and nearby community to best minimise any disruptions.

Contractors uses control measures, such as dust suppression and noise reduction equipment, to reduce impacts as much as possible.

All works were safely managed in accordance with WorkSafe Victoria and Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) guidelines and regulations.

Main construction is scheduled to begin in late 2024, with the new homes expected to be completed in 2026.

Further details and dates to be confirmed once the building contractor has been secured.

We will continue to work closely with businesses and nearby community throughout the construction period.

The timeline may change due to weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances. Homes Victoria will update you when there are significant changes to the program.

The health and safety of the East Geelong community is our priority, and we will restrict work area access to contractors only. All works will be compliant with WorkSafe Victoria and EPA Victoria regulations.
