Major milestone reached on new social housing in Geelong

Posted on: 19/11/2025 - 1:09pm

We recently celebrated the topping out of our Ormond Road, East Geelong site. This means the main building structures are now in place and the project is ready to move to the fitting out of homes stage, which marks a key milestone in the project.

We are building 54 homes on Ormond Road, East Geelong, providing more Victorians with a safe and secure place to call home.

The new homes will feature:

  • 38 x one-bedroom homes

  • 12 x two-bedroom homes

  • And 4 x three-bedroom homes.

These new homes will replace the outdated housing along Ormond Road with modern housing that better meets the needs of residents, with easy access to schools, medical services, employment opportunities, transport, and other amenities.

All of the homes are designed to meet Livable Housing Australia’s Silver Level standards and are certified to a 7-star NatHERS rating and 5 Star Green Star sustainability standard.

With features such as double-glazed windows and thermal insulation, these homes will make it easier and more affordable for renters to stay cool in summer and warm in winter.

The project will now move into the internal fit-out stage. Contractors will be installing flooring, ceilings, partitions, services joinery and all the finishes.

The new homes are expected to be completed mid-2026 providing safe and modern housing for families and individuals on the Victorian Housing Register.

What is social housing?

Social housing is long-term rental housing. These homes are for people who face challenges that make it difficult to secure safe and suitable housing in the private rental market.

Public housing and community housing are both types of social housing.

Community housing is managed by not-for-profit community housing organisations. Public housing is managed by the state government.

Renters who live in community housing have the same rights as public housing renters under the Residential Tenancies Act (1997).
