Benalla West

Construction of the Benalla West Stage One project is scheduled to commence in 2026 and be completed in 2027.

• Energy-efficient designs to minimise heating and cooling running costs.
• 5% of the new homes will be fully accessible for Victorians with disabilities.
• Private open spaces that can be adapted to suit the needs of the renters
• Low maintenance native or drought tolerant landscaping.

Previous renters who moved to alternative housing will be given the opportunity to return to their neighbourhood based on their eligibility, needs and suitability of the new homes. The remaining social homes will be allocated to people most in need of housing through the Victorian Housing Register.  

The affordable homes will be allocated to people through Homes Victoria’s Affordable Program. The program aims to help Victorian renters on low-to-moderate incomes to access high quality and secure housing at an affordable rent. The affordable homes will be rented under 3-year fixed-term rental agreements to give renters more security. 

Homes Victoria’s Benalla West - Stage One project is being funded by the Victorian Government’s Big Housing Build. The project will deliver 48 new homes in the Benalla West neighbourhood, replacing 21 ageing homes that no longer meet today’s building standards or living expectations.  

There are currently no confirmed plans for any other stages of development at the site.
