North Richmond precinct

The redevelopment of the North Richmond housing precinct is progressing in stages. We’re redeveloping the ageing towers with high-quality and energy-efficient homes. These new buildings will be bright, modern and include shared community spaces.

These exciting changes are part of Australia’s largest urban renewal, the High-rise Redevelopment Program. Throughout the project, we’re keeping a central focus on local people, neighbourhood connection, and quality of life.

New homes across the precinct will be delivered in stages. This will ensure residents are supported at every step of the way and help to minimise disruptions. Each stage is built with community feedback, design excellence and sustainability goals.

Church Street, Elizabeth Street, Anderson Court and Williams Court – demolition of vacant dwellings are underway and will continue until 2027
139 Highett Street – pre-demolition works are underway in vacant apartments
Future redevelopment – planning is underway for future stages of redevelopment across the precinct

Community engagement

We are planning for the future of the North Richmond housing precinct, and we want to hear what’s important to you. We are inviting local residents, stakeholders and the wider community to share their ideas and insights to help shape the future of the precinct.

What’s being delivered

The redevelopment of the North Richmond precinct is progressing in stages.

The redevelopment commenced with the Big Housing Build project on Elizabeth Street that delivered 144 new social homes in 2025.

The next stage includes the demolition of the ageing walk-ups on Elizabeth Street, Church Street and Anderson and Williams courts.

Redevelopment across the precinct will continue over many years with the progressive relocation of renters, demolition of old homes and development of more and better homes across the precinct.
