Alamein Avenue and Ambon Street, Ashburton
We've started planning for the redevelopment of the Alamein Avenue and Ambon Street housing sites in Ashburton. We’ll replace the old walk-ups with 91 new homes.
The new homes will be modern, well-designed and energy efficient. The project also includes new communal areas inside and outside the building.
This project is being delivered in partnership between the Commonwealth Government's Housing Australia Future Fund and the Victorian Government.
We’re delivering more and better social housing close to public spaces, transport and services.
Construction is expected to start in late 2026 - early 2027 and be completed in 2029.

Community consultation
Consultation is now open for community feedback on the plans for the new homes at Alamein Avenue and Ambon Street in Ashburton. These plans have been informed by the early engagement we did with community and stakeholders in late 2025.
We’re inviting the Ashburton community to view the design plans and provide feedback by 11:59pm 22 March 2026.

Visioning Engagement
In October and November 2025, Homes Victoria engaged with residents, community and stakeholders on what is important to them in the redevelopment of 1-9 Alamein Avenue and 2 Ambon Street, Ashburton.
Our engagement included:
- An Engage Vic survey
- 5 stakeholder workshops with Traditional Owners, council, police, local housing office staff and service providers
- 2 community drop-in sessions
Relocations
All residents from the old walk-ups at Alamein Avenue and Ambon Street have been supported to move into new homes that suit their ongoing needs.
Relocated households will have the right to return to the new homes based on their ongoing eligibility, needs and suitability of the new homes.
