High-rise redevelopment set to deliver even more homes for Victorians
Posted on: 30/01/2026 - 10:30am
The next phase of the Australia’s largest ever urban renewal program is ensuring thousands more Victorians have a place to call home and current and future residents have access to modern, safe, accessible and energy efficient homes.
Melbourne’s 44 high-rise housing towers are being replaced as part of the ground-breaking High-rise Redevelopment Program. The redevelopment will increase social housing across Melbourne by at least 10% in well-designed and better-connected neighbourhoods.
This next round of high-rise redevelopments includes 7 towers across 6 sites located at:
- 25 King Street, Prahran
- 27 Kings Street, Prahran
- 29 Crown Street, Flemington
- 94 Ormond Street, Kensington
- 150 Inkerman Street, St Kilda
- 150 Victoria Street, Albert Park
- 159 Melrose Street, North Melbourne
Brand new homes will be ready later this year for relocating residents who want to stay nearby at:
Residents of these sites won’t need to move right away. Relocations will begin in July 2026 finishing up in February 2028. We’ll provide each household with a dedicated relocation support worker. They will work with the residents to understand their needs for their new home – including location, health and service providers and accessibility needs.
We’ll continue to work with residents, communities and stakeholder groups throughout the process. We’re also making sure each household has access to ongoing support.
