North Melbourne precinct

Major renewal is underway in North Melbourne for the benefit of current and future residents. We’re not just delivering more homes but better, energy efficient and accessible homes as well as shared community spaces.

Redevelopment is happening in careful stages with a focus on community input, design excellence and sustainability goals.

  • Abbotsford Street – new and returning residents are already enjoying quality new homes and community spaces.
  • 33 Alfred Street – planning underway for new homes and shared spaces.
  • 159 Melrose Street – part of the next stage of redevelopment, timed for relocating residents to access new homes nearby.

It’s all part of building well-designed and thriving neighbourhoods for a better future

What’s being delivered:

  • Abbotsford Street redevelopment – has already delivered 127 new social homes, replacing 119 outdated walk-up homes.
  • 33 Alfred Street redevelopment – planning is underway for approximately 800 new homes expected to be complete in 2031. This includes 300 new social homes for current and future residents (an increase of 110% social homes). It's the first step towards a well-designed, connected and welcoming neighbourhood with shared community spaces and potential for services and retail to support residents.
  • 159 Melrose Street – part of the next stage of redevelopment. From July 2026 to February 2028, we’ll work closely with residents of this building to find new homes that suit their needs.
