The First Peoples Home Ownership Program provides financial uplift for First Peoples homebuyers with one-off grant packages

The program gives ready homebuyers a range of grants to help them buy their own home.  Applicants can also access assistance to navigate home ownership pathways to move towards their housing goals.

What grants are available?

Home Buyer Booster

$2,500 to help with legal and administrative costs.

Land transfer helper

A matching contribution up to $10,000 of land transfer duty cost incurred through the transfer of land into the person's name. The grant amount will be determined based on the actual land transfer duty payable, up to a maximum of $10,000

Deposit contribution

For every dollar you contribute towards your deposit, we’ll match it up to a maximum of $20,000.

New builds

If you’re building or buying a newly constructed home, you can receive an extra $5,000 on top of the deposit contribution.

The program will offer the above assistance to support First Peoples in Victoria. 

Eligibility

To be eligible for the grants you must:

  • Ensure the primary applicant is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (Confirmation of Aboriginality is required).
  • Not currently own a home at the time of applying.
  • Currently reside and intend to purchase a home in Victoria.
  • Have an individual or household income of no more than $245,000 per annum.
  • Have documented pre-approval from a financial provider.

Before applying

Before starting your application, you are encouraged to speak with a financial institution to understand your borrowing power. This will help you make informed decisions about your financial readiness and the type of property you may be able to buy. 

For processing of successful grant applications, you will need to engage a conveyancer or solicitor to help guide you through legal and settlement requirements and to process grant payment.

Before applying, please ensure you have prepared and certified all the necessary documents before you begin your application:

  • Proof of income
  • Proof of identity and Victorian address
  • Proof of pre-approval (approval for loan amount)
  • Confirmation of Aboriginality

Community Support

The First Peoples Home Ownership program has four community support roles, known as ACCO Home Ownership Officers. These roles have been funded to provide direct community support, to promote the program and deliver information sessions. The ACCO Home Ownership Officers are delivered through Aboriginal Housing Victoria and Worn Gundidj across 4 regions for coverage across all of Victoria. ​
