118 new homes in Wantirna South to help increase Victoria’s community housing supply

We partnered with Community Housing Victoria Limited (CHvL) to deliver 118 new homes in Wantirna South.

The project helps ease the Victorian housing crisis by providing 118 homes for people on the Victorian Housing Register (VHR) a place to call home. Homes Victoria contributed more than $40 million from the Social Housing Growth Fund to the project, which created 475 jobs.

These newly completed architecturally designed homes have communal outdoor spaces and landscaped areas to encourage togetherness and community spirit, along with integrated CCTV for improved safety and security. Close to amenities including retail outlets, public transport and main roads providing residents not only a beautiful place to call home in an ideal location but one that connects them to the broader Melbourne network.

Community housing organisations are not-for-profit agencies that own and manage housing for people on low to moderate incomes. Our partnership with them is an integral part of how we deliver more homes. They provide support and services helping people thrive in their community.

With over 65,000 people waiting for homes on the Victorian Housing Register, this project is one of many Homes Victoria has on the go to help improve and increase social housing for low-income earners and those who face homelessness – together, we are delivering more homes for more Victorians.

What is the Social Housing Growth Fund?

The Social Housing Growth Fund was established in 2018 to increase new social housing in Victoria.

The fund was developed as a collaboration between government, private and philanthropic sectors. It provides an ongoing mechanism for eligible community housing agencies to deliver more social housing for Victorians in need of housing support.

This includes adults and children escaping family violence, women over the age of 55, Aboriginal Victorians, people with disability, and those experiencing mental ill-health.
