Home is Where Country is

About the artwork

Homes Victoria is proud to have collaborated with leading First Nations artist Chloe Chatterton in the creation of our new First Nations branding artwork.

"For our people, home is so much more than just physical structures or postcodes. It’s not defined by where you live, but by your connection to Country, Culture, Community, and Story."

-    Chloe Chatterton, Wadawurrung (artist)

About the artist

The stories and teachings of Chloe’s Wadawurrung heritage form the basis for her creative work, which explores places of significance and traditional symbolism. The coastal, inland, and mountainous landscapes of Wadawurrung Country deeply move Chloe. She finds returning to Wadawurrung Country a restorative and rejuvenating experience.

Returning to Wadawurrung Country allows Chloe to reconnect with her cultural roots, a profoundly meaningful experience. Art ultimately serves as a way for her to visually communicate Wadawurrung history, stories and culture.

Teaching is also a passion for Chloe. It gives her the opportunity to close the gap and break down the barriers many face in education. She wants everyone has an equal chance to reach their full potential and pursue their passions in life.

Chloe says: “‘Home is Where Country is’ about our mob and community, our sense of belonging and the safe spaces we create together. It’s in the everyday relationships we hold, the shared responsibilities, and the way we look out for each other. Our stories shape our understanding of home. Through storytelling, we honour truth, connect with our history, and carry forward the strength of our Ancestors.”
