SectorConnect - Helping residents to put their best foot forward

Residents at Themar Heights in Warrnambool recently benefited from a local Shoe Drive organised by Brophy’s SRS Outreach and Assistance Program in partnership with The Podiatrist Collective.

Podiatrists Tanya and Aisha from The Podiatry Collective volunteered their time and expertise to professionally fit residents with quality donated footwear.

Well-fitting shoes can make the world of difference to mobility, comfort and overall wellbeing. This is especially the case for older residents and people living with health conditions.

"The footwear project is something that has started from a collection of footwear under the desk and slowly growing to storing boxes of shoes in our garages to provide to those who need them the most" said Tanya.

The project has helped residents take positive steps to foot protection and relief from foot pain through education as well as well-fitting suitable footwear.

"It's an opportunity for self-empowerment...for individuals to make a change for themselves and improve their quality of life" said Tanya.

To make the day extra special, the team at Brophy OAP organised a local coffee van to treat residents, staff and volunteers to a free cuppa.

Residents enjoyed the relaxed and positive day out connecting with each other and health professionals – ‘toe-tally’ satisfied with the service received and their selected shoes.
