SectorConnect - Adrian's story

When Adrian* moved into Supported Residential Services accommodation, he was dealing with serious health problems and feeling very left out from his community.

Because he used a wheelchair full-time, life wasn’t easy. Adrian had previously applied for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) four times and was unsuccessful every single time, even after trying to appeal.

To leave his home and get to doctor appointments, he had to rely on his family members. This limited his independence which made him feel sad

Fortunately, Adrian's situation improved, thanks to genU’s SRS Outreach and Assistance Program, and the support of case workers, Sophie and Sarah. They supported Adrian to attend his medical appointments and helped him gather the evidence he needed to make a stronger new NDIS application.

Before long, someone donated a motorised wheelchair, which instantly gave Adrian more freedom to attend local health appointments and get around his local community on his own.

The genU program also paid for special professional evaluation of his abilities, giving him even more strong evidence to support his application.

Earlier this year, Adrian received the news he had been hoping for - his NDIS application was accepted!

This life-changing result means he can now receive all kinds of extra support and services that wouldn’t have been possible without the help of genU and the Outreach Assistance Program. Congratulations to all on a fantastic result!
