New social housing in Yarraville

Posted on: 11/06/2025 - 12:44pm

A new, modern 3-level residential complex delivering 16 new social homes has opened in Hance Street, Yarraville.

We delivered this project in partnership with Salvation Army Housing. The homes will be allocated to people on the Victorian Housing Register, with 75% designated to people over 40 years old.

The new, all-electric building designed specifically with residents in mind features solar panels, split system heating and cooling with private gardens, storage sheds, bike racks and basement parking.

The new homes are located close to amenities including healthcare, education, and transportation. They offer residents the convenience of being part of a well-connected, thriving community within the inner west.

The development includes a mix of one and 2-bedroom homes, with the Victorian Government contributing $6.7 million towards the project and creating 83 jobs in the process.

The Salvation Army will also be providing support services for residents on-site. It’s through partnerships with community housing organisations like Salvation Army that we are delivering hundreds of projects like this one.

What are community housing organisations?

Community housing organisations are not-for-profit agencies that own and manage housing for people on low to moderate incomes. They provide support and services to help people thrive in their community.

What is the Social Housing Growth Fund?

The Social Housing Growth Fund was established in 2018 to increase new social housing in Victoria.

The fund was developed as a collaboration between government, private and philanthropic sectors. It provides an ongoing mechanism for eligible community housing agencies to deliver more social housing for Victorians in need of housing support.

This includes adults and children escaping family violence, women over the age of 55, Aboriginal Victorians, people with disability, and those experiencing mental ill-health.
