New social housing takes shape in Lalor

Posted on: 16/07/2026 - 11:47am

Construction on a new social housing development in Lalor is well underway with completion scheduled for later this year.

This project is delivered in partnership with Baptcare Affordable Housing (BAH), and will be a mix of one- 2- and 4-bedroom homes.

The $23.6 m investment will provide 45 new homes to people on the Victorian Housing Register and BAH’s Register of Interest.

Since work began in early 2024, the once-vacant site has been buzzing with activity. Framing, roof plumbing, plastering, brick layering and slab pouring works are underway.

The new homes are designed with comfort, energy efficiency and long-term sustainability in mind.

Each home will achieve a 7-star NatHERS energy rating. This includes an all-electric design and ducted reverse-cycle air conditioning.

Future residents will benefit from easy access to:

  • public transport
  • schools
  • medical services and
  • retail outlets.

Once completed, community housing provider BAH will provide property and tenancy management for the site.

BAH currently provides homes for more than 700 people and manages over 300 properties across Victoria.

They help provide stable homes to people on lower incomes, homeless, or at risk of homelessness.

These homes will provide secure, safe and long-term housing. Housing priority will be given to older Victorians and people escaping family violence.

The project is an important step forward in meeting Victoria’s growing need for safe and secure housing.
