Construction ramps up at Port Melbourne

Works are progressing well to deliver 408 new homes at the Barak Beacon housing redevelopment site, as we move into the next phase of construction.

Foundation works and ground slab pours are now complete, allowing building structures to take shape.

You will soon see the buildings going vertical out of the ground as the 5 tower cranes (Skyhawk, Cloud Chaser, Cranezilla, Ironbeak and Skywalk) are working hard to lift structural elements into place.

Also, as you may know, weekend concrete pours began on Saturday 7 June and will continue as needed in the coming months. These works take place between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm and are approved by the City of Port Phillip. 

All concrete pour related activities will remain within the site boundary and are not expected to impact local movement. As construction ramps up, there will be more workers on the site.

Our project builder, ICON, is working hard to manage construction work and traffic to minimise disruptions to surrounding neighbours. They are also regularly reminding site workers to be considerate of the local community, such as encouraging carpooling or the use of public transport where possible.

We appreciate that living near a construction site can be difficult, and — together with our project partner, Building Communities — we thank you for your patience as we redevelop the Barak Beacon housing site to deliver new social, affordable and market rental housing, as well as specialist disability accommodation and quality outdoor spaces for the wider local community.

The new homes and improved open spaces at Barak Beacon will be complete in late 2026.
