Support for people with a disability

The NDIS is the new way of providing support for Australians with disability as well as their families and carers. The NDIS offers a number of supports for participants who wish to remain in their homes and live independently.

Supports must be articulated in the participant's plan, which is developed by an NDIS planner.

How do I join the NDIS?

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is housing designed for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.

To live in SDA, you need to be:

• a NDIS participant, and
• have SDA and Supported Independent Living (SIL) funding approved in your NDIS plan.

The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing is Victoria’s largest SDA provider. Their purpose is to provide safe and secure homes that maximise resident choice, independence and participation in the community.
