The First Peoples Home Ownership Program enables First Peoples to take their first steps towards home ownership.

The program provides Victorian First Peoples with financial grants to help them buy their first home.  

It also gives Victorian First Peoples a range of other support and advice to help them achieve their financial and housing aspirations.

What grants are available?

The Program provides the following assistance to First Peoples in Victoria:

  • Home Buyer Booster – up to $2,500 to help with legal and administrative costs
  • Land transfer (Stamp) duty helper - up to $10,000 for contribution to Land Transfer (stamp) duty, for program participants who have not previously owned and do not currently own a home.
  • Deposit match – up to $20,000 to match your house deposit and a further additional amount of $5,000 for newly constructed builds.

Eligibility

To be eligible to for the grants you must:

  • Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent 
  • Have at least $1,000 in savings towards a home deposit 
  • Currently reside and intend to purchase a home in Victoria
  • Have an individual or household income of no more than at $245,000 per annum 
  • Not currently own a home at the time of applying.

  • Homes Victoria is proud to be partnering with Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) to promote the First Peoples Home Ownership Program. Contact details to access support in your area will be available soon.
  • The Victorian Government is advancing Victorian First Peoples’ self-determination by opening the door to home ownership for First Peoples.
