Stable housing, brighter future

Housing is the foundation for health, wellbeing, connection and opportunity.

The Big Housing Build is creating thousands of new homes for people who need them most.

But these homes are more than bricks and mortar.

For Abigail, a mother of 2, a new home means a new future. Abigail is a member of the Larrakeyah Common Equity Rental Housing Co-Operative (CERC) and is a proud renter in one of 6 brand-new social homes in Greater Geelong.

“The future looks like a really happy place where I can grow and be supported by my family,” she told us. “The future looks a lot more bright and happy for all of us.”

Stephen from Prahran said a stable home has had a positive impact on his personal wellbeing.

“Living here in a happy environment means I’ll live a little bit longer and I’m less stressed.”

Trudy had been living in her rental home for 8 years when it was unexpectedly sold. She was given 3 months to find a new place to live.

As a stay-at-home mother, Trudy struggled to find somewhere affordable and stable for her and her daughter Ella to live. Trudy reached out to community housing organisation YWCA for support. Together, they were able to find a new home before the 3-month deadline was up. For Trudy, mum to Ella,“We have freedom. I have flexibility to be able to make choices that I want to make for my future,” she saidThese voices echo what we see every day. The stability of a home allows people to take part in community, return to study or work, care for family and plan for the future with confidence.

We’re working closely with industry, the not-for-profit sector and the community to build a sustainable housing system that can deliver for generations to come.

And, above all, we’re ensuring more Victorians have a place to call home.
