Opening doors for young people in construction
Posted on: 26/03/2026 - 9:07am
We are proud to partner with The Huddle, ICON, Empowering Women in Trade (EWIT) and Ubuntu Project to open doors for young people considering a career in construction.
We held a site tour at Holland Court in Flemington to a group of 18 to 25-year-olds to get a real-world look at the work that goes into building new homes.
The Holland Court development will see 286 new homes built in partnership with Building Communities.
Participants also rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on planter box building session led by EWIT.
They discovered the many pathways this industry offers from apprenticeships to administrative roles.
Confidence grew, questions flowed, and new networks were formed throughout the day.
We will continue to work with project partners to empower women and create meaningful opportunities in our community.
About Holland Court, Flemington
We're delivering 286 homes and a new public park at the Holland Court housing site in Flemington.
Our project partner is Building Communities and the builder at the site is ICON. The project will deliver 50 social and 236 affordable rental homes, with a mix of one-, 2-, and 3-bedroom homes for different sized families and households.
New homes at Holland Court will be delivered through a Ground Lease Model. This is a partnership approach to housing delivery where Homes Victoria leases the land to Building Communities to finance, design, build, manage and maintain the new homes at the site for a 40-year term.
The land and homes will remain in public ownership. This project will be complete from late 2026 as part of the Victorian Government’s investment into social and affordable housing.
