Hundreds of new social homes announced across Victoria

More than 500 new social homes will be delivered as part of the second round of the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF) — supporting more Victorians to access safe, secure and modern homes.

A joint initiative of the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments, these projects as part of HAFF Round 2 will see nine new developments progress across Melbourne suburbs including Williamstown, Clifton Hill, Ascot Vale, Ashburton, Bellfield, Albion, Ashwood, Braybrook and Glenroy.

More projects as part of HAFF Round 2 will be announced in the coming months.

These homes will support people most in need – including families, older women, people escaping family violence, and individuals at risk of homelessness.

Minister for Housing Harriet Shing said:

“The new social and affordable housing we are delivering in partnership with the Commonwealth Government will continue to provide more vulnerable Victorians with homes that are beautiful, secure, energy efficient, and part of the communities around them – homes that residents can be proud of.”

The developments include both redevelopment of existing low-rise public housing estates and new homes built on government-owned land.

New HAFF Round 2 projects:

  • Bronte Court, Williamstown – 96 new homes
  • Noone Street, Clifton Hill – 114 new homes
  • Dunlop Avenue, Ascot Vale – 101 new homes
  • Alamein Avenue and Ambon Street, Ashburton – 91 new homes
  • Plunkett Street, Bellfield – 25 new homes
  • Burnewang Street, Albion – 19 new homes
  • Electra Avenue, Ashwood – 22 new homes
  • Melon Street, Braybrook – 19 new homes
  • Hilda and Daley Streets, Glenroy – 19 new homes

These projects form part of a pipeline of 25 projects funded under HAFF Round 2, supported by $991 million from the Commonwealth Government and $360 million from the Victorian Government.

Homes Victoria will begin progressing the projects by the end of 2025, including working closely with local communities and the Department of Transport and Planning. All projects must start works by June 2026 and be completed by June 2029.

Where redevelopment is required, current renters will be supported to move to a new home that suits their needs. Renters will have the opportunity to return to the new development once complete, based on their ongoing eligibility and housing needs, and the suitability of new homes.

These projects add to the Government’s broader housing agenda, including the Big Housing Build and the Regional Housing Fund, which together are delivering more than 13,300 new social and affordable homes across Victoria. More than 10,800 homes are already completed or underway.
