Cranezilla arrives in Port Melbourne along with some tiny helpers

More and better homes are coming to Port Melbourne and local kids have played a special role in bringing the project to life.
Port Melbourne Primary School students named the cranes that are helping to build 408 new social, affordable and market rental homes in Barak Beacon.
Look to the skies and you’ll spot Skyhawk, Cloud Chaser, Cranezilla, Ironbeak and Skywalk hard at work building homes for those who need them most.
The arrival of the cranes marks a significant construction milestone in the redevelopment of the Barak Beacon housing site.
We are on track to deliver these new homes from late 2026 with our project partner Building Communities, and builder ICON.
The project will also deliver quality outdoor spaces for the community, with landscaped gardens and double the number of trees than were there previously.
The homes will be modern, energy efficient with a mix of one, 2-, 3- and 4-bedrooms to suit a range of families and households. There will also be accessible housing for people living with a disability.
