Information for residents and local community

Homes Victoria is undertaking some early-stage geotechnical works, as part of preparation for the delivery of 131 new homes at 182-196 Dorcas Street. These works will help us understand the condition of the site for our planning and will take place between 10 and 20 March.

What will you see and hear?

• A drilling rig will move around the site to collect samples of soil and rock from multiple locations.
• There will be short bursts of loud noise when the drilling rig operates.
• An excavator will also operate and may generate some noise.

All works will be compliant with WorkSafe Victoria and EPA Victoria regulations.

Construction of the new homes on Dorcas Street will not start until we have completed the next phase of community consultation, followed by a planning application to the Department of Transport and Planning. We will keep residents and the community informed at every stage of the process.

We always try to keep impacts to a minimum but sometimes building new homes and spaces may cause disruptions like:   

• Trucks coming in and out of the site.
• Some dust and building noise.
• Changes to traffic and pedestrian access. 

We’ll provide notices to residents before significant works happen and you can also sign up for project updates. 

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we undertake these important works.  

All works will be compliant with WorkSafe Victoria and Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Victoria regulations. 

Site works will operate within standard hours as determined by your local city council. With the exceptions of emergencies or out-of-hours permits, construction works in the City of Port Phillip can be carried out between the hours of:    

• Monday to Friday 7 am to 6 pm (excluding public holidays)
• Saturday 9 am to 5 pm

Nearby residents will receive notices in their letterboxes ahead of any significant works.
