We know your neighbourhood is important to you. The development at Pound Road, Colac, will add much-needed housing stock to the Colac area. It will deliver modern, secure and sustainable homes for the Victorians who need them most.
Footpath closure:
Pedestrian access during Pound Road service works (until late 2026)
The footpath in front of the development on the north side of Pound Road is closed for sewer, stormwater drainage and electrical works that will ensure the new homes are connected to essential services such as power and water.
To maintain safe pedestrian access around the works zone we have built a temporary crushed rock footpath on the south side of Pound Road.
The Pound Road footpath will be closed at the works zone and the temporary footpath in use until late 2026 when site preparation works are expected to be complete.
What to expect
The Pound Road footpath on either side of the works zone remains open as normal, maintaining pedestrian access to homes and the Colac Cemetery.
Pedestrians can detour around the project works zone by crossing the road and using the temporary footpath.
Pedestrians with mobility needs may wish to travel via Queen Street, Hearn Street and Gravesend Street on the existing concrete footpath.
Pound Road will remain open to vehicles, with a reduced speed limit and traffic management in place to maintain safety for all road users.
Public transport
The bus stop at 108 Pound Road will continue to operate as normal during these works.
Site preparation works (May 2026 to late 2026)
Site preparation works will take place from May 2026 to prepare the site for the construction of 50 new homes.
What will be happening:
- Installation of permanent fencing along the cemetery boundary.
- Reinstatement of fencing along the Colac Secondary College boundary.
- Safe removal of some trees.
- Site-wide earthworks.
- Installation of storm water and service infrastructure.
- Construction of a new internal road to access the new homes.
- Works on Pound Road, including new on-street parking.
At times there may be:
- Local traffic changes, including heavy trucks entering and leaving the area
- Medium-level vibrations
- High-level noise and dust
- Heavy machinery operating.
Nearby residents can expect to see contractors in hi-vis and protective clothing operating heavy machinery (such as loaders and excavators) and heavy trucks entering and leaving the area. There will also be some levels of dust, vibration and noise.
To ensure the health and safety of nearby residents, our contractor will undertake measures to reduce impacts from dust and noise as much as possible.
All works will be compliant with WorkSafe Victoria and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Victoria regulations.
